= CRICKET CLUB. 5 The annual meeting of the Tcmuka Z Cricket Club was held on Wednesday 5 night, Mr T. Dwan (president), being « in the chair. There was a fairly good z attendance of members. § ANNUAL REPORT. - The annual report stated that the Z club had a very successful season, fin- ; isliiug up second, equal with Eairview, ; with 23 points. Besides playing n the : competition games, tho club played a ; friendly match with Waimate, the vis- : itors winning by a small margin. Messrs ■ Coventry, Williams, Austin and Divan ■ gained‘places in the South Canterbury : junior representative team. Mr Covi entry attained tho best batting average | for the season, and reached tho cent- : ury. Jfc F. Divan secured the best ■ bowling average. Tho committee ex- : pressed thanks to the patroness, Mrs : A. Hayhurst, for support during tho ■ season; to the president for his untir- : mg energy in umpiring all the matches, ; and for providing afternoon-tea at the ; Waimate v. Tcmuka match; to Mr S. : Goddard for repairing and sharpening ; the lawn-mower; to Mr Gunnion and | all tho vice-presidents who so loyally supported the club during the year; and to Father Bartley for donating a cricket ball to the club. After beginning the season with a debit balance of £9, tho club has a small credit balance of 12s Bd. During the season, tho expenditure was very heavy, namely, £9 7s 6d for afternoonteas ; and £4 14s for bats and balls. Members would assist the club by paying their subscriptions promptly. Thanks were due to tho captain, Mr Coventry; also to Mr Chapman for the efficient way he dispensed the after-noon-tea. The prospects for tho coming season were very good. Tho Oval had been top-dressed, and all the club’s material was in good order. Mr E. J. Chapman, in moving tho adoption of the report and balance sheet, congratulated tho club on the progress made. The president thanked all the players for the way they had supported the club during the year. He also congratulated the team on attaining second place (equal) in the competition. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P.; patroness, Mrs A. Hayhurst; president, Mr T. Divan; vice-presidents, Messrs C. L. Fraser, H. B. Strange, W. 13. Sutcliffe. J. Ash well, G. 13. Cartwright, E. 0. Shaw, F. W. Salmon, Dr. McTnnes, AV. G. Armitage, E. Brown, C. Harrison, G. Austin, C. Tirade, . Father Bartley, Father Fraher; secretary, Mr Tan Abernothy;. treasurer, Mr E. J. Chapman; auditor, Mr W. 13. Sutcliffe; selection committee, Messrs Salmon, Coventry, Divan; management committee, Messrs T. Divan, Aber- ' nethy, Kyne, Coventry, C. Austin, ) Salmon, F. Dwan and J. De Penny: delegate to South Canterbury Cricket Association, Mr G. Coventry. New members were effieted as follows: I. Abernothy, G. Smart, I). Seiway, L. Goodson. Subscriptions were fixed at the same as last year. It was decided to ask the Geraldine Cricket Club to arrange a game at Geraldine iwr the opening of the sea- 9 son. I Mr Ivan Schrader, who came up from 7 Waimate to attend the meeting, and 6 who did splendid work last year as f secretary, tendered his resignation, a which was received with much regret.. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs H. E. Gapper, and Miss Winsome Talbot, left Tcmuka yesterday to spend a fortyight’s holiday in Dunedin.
