CLOSING HOUR ON SATURDAY.
ItEPORT OP SPECIAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the linmru Retail Business men was held last week, at which the question of chumgshops earlier on the Saturday half-holiday was under consideration. tc The question discussed was whether the retail shop-keepers would agree-to close their shops at 12.45 p.m. , *on Saturday. After a. long discussion. it was decided by a majority that, -a| plebiscite be taken of the shop-keepers, whether they approved of closing' at 12.30-p.m. or 12.45 p.m., and a committee was formed to canvass the town and ascertain which hour they approved of. The results have-now come to hand, and, in the opinion, or a majority they favoured 12.30 p-m- as the closing hour. It is therefore rqcommonded by the Retail Committee on and after Saturday, 16th inst., all retail shops cither than those which are affected by an Award or Requisition, close their premises at 12.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
