CANADIANS HALT AT ASHBURTON. Bv Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, July 4. The Canadian Soccer team, at the invitation of the local Board, plaved a game here en route to Timpani which resulted: — Canada 7 Ashburton •• .1 The visitors had luncheon at Ashburton. CANADIAN MATCH, TO-MORROW.
» The Canadian team are to be trained during their stay in Timaru at Caroline Bay. The facilities there will be made full use of, and the trainer (Mr Colin Reed) expressed approval of the generous way he has been met by the civic authorities in regard to the question of keeping the Canadian visitors in good trim. At the game on Wednesday the usual goalkeeper, Stan Tait, will be the custodian. Accounts of Tait’s brilliant work between the uprights have reached Timaru, and as South Canterbury will field a strong front line the public should he treated to a good display of goal-keeping. The travelling party expressed approval at the arrangements that have been fiiade by the Timaru executive for their entertainment during their stay. Advice has been received by the secretary that the Oamaru juniors are unable to travel, and the arrangements for a curtain-raisor are now off, as one cannot be arranged. Some disappointment will be. felt among the juniors that this game will not eventuate.
