TEMUKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) THE WEATHER, Springlike weather prevailed on Sunday, but the conditions yesterday were very much colder. The sky was overcast, and there was a distinct rawness in the air. ACCIDENT. On Saturday afternocm an elderly mail named Mr B. Love, who resides in Gammack Street, Temuka, was knocked over by a motor-cycle and side-car, and sustained abrasions on the face, besides being severely shaken. Tho outfit is owned by Hanson Bros., Glen-iti, and they were leaving the taxi-stand, Paul being in the driver’s seat and his brother pushing behind tc< start tho machine. When this was effected Hanson jumped on to the side-car, and tho outfit tilted up, bored to tho right, and ran into the side-channel, knocking down Mr Love. OBITUARY. General regret, was felt throughout the district on Friday, when it became known that Mr Joseph Norton had passed away after an illness in the Timaru Hospital. The deceased was born in Temuka 47 years ago, his parents being amongst the first settlers in the district. After leaving school, the late Mr Norton assisted his father in the butchery business. After his father’s death, he commenced to work in the shop. In 1913 lie purchased Mr Hammond’s shop, which he carried on successfully until he went into camp in 1918. On returning to Temuka, ho bought a dairy farm at Clandeboye, which ho worked with much success until his death. Of a generous and genial disposition, he was very popular in tho district. Ho leaves a widow, two sisters, Mrs J. "Washington (Temuka) and Mrs Arthur Duggan (Christchurch) ; three brothers, Messrs Simon, and W. R, Norton (Temuka) and Mr A. Norton (North Island). Tho funeral took place at the Temuka cemetery on Sunday afternoon, being very largely attended. The Rev. R. Richards conducted tho services at the house and- grave-side. Tlie bearers were Messrs E. Norton, A. Duggan, J. Donohue, and Geo. Hooper. A very large number cf floral tokens were sent by sympathetic friends.

DRUNK. A statutory first offender who appeared before Air AV. E. Evans, J.P., at the Police Court yesterday morning, was convicted and fined 5s for drunkenness. PERSONAL. Air and Airs Len Smart, Ensors Road, Christchurch, were in Temuka yesterday visiting friends. Aliss Alyrtle La wry, Dunedin, is spending a few days at Temuka. Air and Airs Chas. Alanson, Barry’s Bay, are spending a shayt holiday with Airs Alanson’s parents in Temuka. DOAIINION THEATRE. Something new in pictures, “Butterflies in tho Rain,” will be screened at Temuka to-night. Laura La Plante find James Kirkwood have the loading roles. Aliss La Plante glides through tlie picture like a comet, throwing an aura of sheen about herself. James Kirkwood gives an admirable portrayal of an aristocratic Englishman. Supports include a “Snocikums” comedy, and two “International Nows” reels. Special music will be rendered by Simes’ orchestra.
