SOUTH SCHOOL.

MEETING OE COAIMITTEE. At tlio monthly meeting of the South School Committee there were present — Alessi-s W. Gibb (chairman), M. J. Brower (hon. secretary), J. M. Coupland (treasurer), A. W. Ale Neil, A. E. Stmthers, W. G. Hawkey, \V. J. Dickson, W. J. Ruston and E. Chictock. The headmaster (Air J. Metliven) was also present. Miss H. Hutt tendered Her resignation as assistant, mistress, and thanked the committee for courtesy extended to her during her service on the slatf.—lt was resolved to accept the, resignation with regret, and that a letter be sent to Miss Hutt, expressing appreciation of the services she had rendered during the past four years in various phuses of school life, and wishing her success ini her new position. Airs S. Millar tendered her resiguatiion as cure taker, and asked to be relieved as early as possible, its she had received another position. —This resignation was also accepted with regret, and a sub-committee (consisting of Messrs AleNoil, Boston and tbo chairman) was appointed to arrange ior a temporary service until a satisfactory schedule of conditions was prepared and a permanent appointment made. The chairman reported having made representations to tiie Minister of Education with reference to requirements, and it was decided to make application to Die Board along these lines. The headmaster reported that tlio number on the roll was 562, and that much sickness had adversely affected the attendance during the past mourn, file average weekly attendance had been as follows 11 th Alareh, 501; 18th, 511; 25th, 530; 31st, 528. The Hon. R. A. AY right, Minister of Education, bad visited the school, and addressed the children. Alessrs AleNoil and Ghat lock reported having visited the and submitted a lengthy list ot requirements. The headmaster was authorised to procure necessary requirements tor the basketball teams. Several minor repairs were authorised, and the other requirements were ordered to be made subject of requests to the Education Board.

Accounts amounting to £l9 16s 8d were passed for payment. As this was the last meeting of the year, tlio chairman thanked members of the committee for their co-operation in carrying on the work during the year. Tiie headmaster thanked the committee, on behalf of Die staff, for what had been done to assist, them in their work, and expressed the hope that all would return to office.
