MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
PROBABLE CANDIDATES. Last evening a large deputation of representative citizens waited upon Councillors J. R. Hart and G. Benstead to request them to allow themselves to be nominated for a further term of office on tho Borough Council. Both Councillors consented to allow themselves to bo nominated. In view of the apathy displayed in municipal elections during the past four years, and to ensure a more businesslike working at Council meetings, a representative body of business men has taken in hdnd the responsibility of selecting and approaching desirable citizens, and requesting them to offer their services in the forthcoming election. The following have consented to their names going forward for nomination: Messrs P. B. Foote, A. Lawrence Gee. John Hutchison, H. Innes-Jones, Preston, Maurice Thompson, G. D. Virtue. These citizens have come forward on the distinct understanding that they arc not bound to any party or association, but will be free to act impartially in the best interests of the borough as a whole. In connection with the election of three members for the South Canterbury Power Board, the following have been nominated: Messrs H. J. Mathers, and R. A. Nicoll. The nominators of these are Messrs Richard Shillito and F. A. Raymond.
