I (From Our Own Correspondent.) !> j OPENING SHOOT OF GUN CLUB. ! - Favoured by flue weather, the St. Andrews Gun Club held their opening § shoot on Thursday afternoon. The k arrangements, in the hands of tho secretary (Mr B. Beskins) and presijf dent (Mr D. Stowell), left nothing to P be desired. Mr 1). Stowell, in asking Mr E. O’Malley, of the AVaihao Forks Club, to lire tho first shot, exhorted members to keep up the reputation J : of tho old club, which had been re- ' cognised as one of the premier clubs ) of New Zealand. Mr O’Malley then fired tho first shot-, and the club was \ officially opened. | Tho programme consisted of six ' shoots. Tho shooting was well above ) tho average, and shoct-cffs were ncces--5 sary in each case to dccido tho final. * Mr AAL Davie’s handicapping met with . general approval. ' i J. Fenwick and L. Coe, St. Andrews, wero tho most successful of local comi petitors, although tho Point and exit New Zealand champion, R. E. Me--1 Uwriek. ran tho finalists very close * from the back mark. Thompson presided at | tho quarterly meeting, where a. large i attendance of brethren was present. Chief Ranger welcomed a visiting | brother of the adult Court. Throe | members were declared on and off the sick list. One candidate was pro- 1 posed for membership. Various accounts were passed for payment. ACCIDENT. ' While riding down the BlucchTTs road, on horseback, one evening during the week, a. young lady named Miss Peters was thrown. 'The hni.se shierl at a pasgpig motor vehicle, and bolted. Miss Peters wa.s thrown on her head. but luckily received no serious injuries. MOTOR hST COLLIDES AVITH HORSE. : A young man, R. Russell, met with ■ an accident on 'Thursday evening. He : wa.s proceeding on his motor-cycle tn j the Gun Club ball, when he evidently struck a straying horse broadside on. People in nearby houses heard a crash, : and found the motorist lying union- ! j scions on the road. The motor was on ! top of him. On examination, no hones j were found to be broken, but tho j ] young man was only half-conscious, j He was taken tn his homo about two hours after the accident. On inquiry tins morning (Friday), it. was learned that Russell was conscious. . He was suffering from slight concussion, and has temporarily lost the use of his legs.
