BRITAIN’S FRUIT SALES.
EARLY ARRIVAL OF NEW ZEALAND APPLES. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 6, 8.0 p.m.) LONDON, April S. Covent Garden marketers are wondering why New Zeealand’s first fruit arrivals are unprecedently ten days ahead of Australian shipments. It is stated that this is due, not only to the lateness of the Australian season, but to i the fact that the New Zealand Fruit Board arranged for the first consignment to be sent by mail boat, thus affording growens a definite date for picking, and speedy shipment. Dealers are marvelling at the phenomenal price of New Zealand Cox’s at private sales. West-End dealers doubt whether 4Gs to 60s per case will again bo realised. This price was due to the eagerness of wealthy people to obtain fresh apples, they being tired of stale American fruit in storage.
