As a result of the Yallourn strike, stringent restrictions governing the use of electricity will he introduced, and from to-day current wlil bo cut off from half the metropolitan area, and half the factories which are dependent on current (supplies will have to close lor the day. Ilie othoi half will he cut off to-morrow. This will he continued alternately.
Efforts made by the Trades Hall Council to avert the strike failed. No negotiations for a settlement of the trouble are at- present being conducted.
It is feared the trouble will spread to the power house workers of the city, resulting in the cutting off if all .sources of supply. MAITLAND COALFIELDS STRIKE. NO SrGN OF SETTLEMENT. The South Maitland coalfields arc still idle, as a result of tho deputies' dispute. It is stated that the colliery managers are insisting on the, observance of the renditions as they existed before the trouble arose, and. l the absence of an understanding to that effect, have withheld directions with respect to starting work, as agreed at an aggregate meeting of deputies on Thursday.
