Mr P. It. Talbot left yesterday on a visit to Central Otago.

Lill (Ashburton) passed' through Timaru yesterday by express, on his way to AVnipiata, to attend a meeting of the AVaipiata Sanatorium Committee. A very well-known resident of Wanganui, .Mrs D. Haggett, of Young Street, Wanganui East, celebrated her 95th birthday last week. Mrs Haggett lias been closely acquainted with "Wanganui and district for a number of yea rs, and formerly was a resident of Timaru. Captain P. Campbell (Superintendent of the Timaru Fire Brigade) who has been connected with the Brigade for tho past 37 years, yesterday tendered his resignation to the Timaru Fire Board. The chairman (Mr W. C. Raymond) spoke very highly of the fine services ■rendered by Captain Campbell, and said the Board were very sorry to receive his resignation. The Superintendent stated that lie had fully considered the matter, and felt that the time was not at his disposal to carry out the duties. On the motion of Mr G. J. Wallace, it was decided to' consider'tho resignation atl a special meeting. The Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) who arrived in Tim«m yesterday, will spend a busy •.time tin Timaru to-dav, his itinerary beirig as follows: —9 a.in., the. South "'hScThool.; ,9.45, Girls’ High: 10.30, Bovs’ High; 11.13, Timaru West: 11.45, Waimataitai; 1.15 p.m., Timaru Alain: 2.30 opens new work-shops at the Technical College : 3.44. leaves for Oai maru. The Minister will 'return to South Canterbury on April 4, when he will go from Stiidholme to AA’aimato, and on to Timaru the same night. He will spend the night in Timaru, and the following day will visit schools along the 'Fuirlio line, subsequently leaving on his return north.
