The conference of two Houses to consider the Family Endowment Scheme, concluded to-day. At the conclusion of the conference, Mr Lang announced that no statement would be made regarding the result of the conference, but that the managers would report in full to the two Houses, when they meet tomorrow. Presumably this means that a compromise has been reached,, and it is unofficially stated that the Endowment Bill will he introduced in the Legislative Council as soon as it meets.

It is understood the Family Endowment Conference failed to reach a definite settlement, but that compromise proposals will be put before both Houses to-morrow. COMPROMISE FORECASTED. Both Labour and Nationalist members of Parliament are sanguine that a compromise on the child endowment scheme will be reached to-day. A scheme, evolved by Mr Tliorby, a member of the State Country Party, has been received, with favour by nil parties. It provides that the Industrial Commissioner should declare a basic wage on a basis of husband and wife only, (o be supplemented by endowment ot 5s weekly for children under fourteen, but no endowment should be paid beyond £1 on excess- of the basic wage.
