POLICE RAID.
CHRTSTCHUR CII 1 ‘PR INTI NG ”■ OFFICE. By Telegraph-Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. Detect: ics raided premises in Cathedral Square alleged to be used as a common gaming house, this aiteinoou. Armed with a search warrant, De-tective-Sergeant 1 oiuig anil Detective Maync went to room -I 1 in the Komi Exchange bin dings, Cathedral square, occupied- by John Henry Doit, aged c-1, anil seized a large quantity ot muteiials which the detectives allege were used for bookinakmg. Two moil who were in the room at the time of the raid were taken into custody. The room presented the appearance of a planting office, there being two nddressograpti machines, typewriters, tape machines, cheque books, ledgers, and office appliances of all kinds. While the detectives were in tlio room several te ephone calls were received, winch were ansewered by the police. Ihe prints of names on the add rossograph machines number many hundred. As a result of the raid, jolm lienr.v Eott and William, Henry Cousins, aged 27, appeared before Mr S. HurstSeager, J.P., B.ott being charged with occupying a common gaming house, and Cousins with assisting him. Roth men were remanded to appear at the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow. Rail was fixed in self £IOO each, and one surety of £IOO each.
