At tho Borough Council meeting held on Wednesday evening, Councillor Gunnion inquired as to wluit the Council’s intention was regarding the North End Reserve. The Mayor said that the section had been lenced recently. The Council should cut the grass and erect see-saws and swings, etc., lor the children. Cr. Evans said that it was a. very good plan. They could also* put down a tennis court. Cr. "FALSE PRETENCES. REMANDED UNTIL TO-DAY. At tho Tcmuka Police Court yesterday,, before Mr \V.,F. Evans, J.P., and Mr J )i. Sinclair, J'Patrick James McCarthy, alias Patrick Aliehacl Cascv, was charged with being an idle and d.'scrdeny person, and also with having O); January 20, obtained from Mr E. Blackmore, the sum of £2 by means of false pretence. , He pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Sergeant Dw an-.said that in view of the plea of guilty, he would ask that the vagrancy charge be withdrawn. Accused had come to Tcmuka a few days ago, but piior to that lie had visited Winchester and had given, the name of Thomson. On going to Tcmuka, accused visited a number of business men and asked for the loan of money. He was arrested on Thursday, and had informed the police that his name whs Casey. He was further questioned that morning, and had stated tliat'his nanle was Patrick James McCarthy, that-he was a returned soldier, and was suffering from war injuries. .l.n reply to the Bench,- accused- staked that he had come from Wellington, and had been an inmate of the Wellington, Christchurch, Dunodin and Napier Hospitals. PICTURES TO-NIGHT.
