AUTOMOBILE ASSN.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the South Canterbury, Automobile Association was held last evening. Prcsenc —Messrs N. M. Orbed (chairman), AV. H. Orbed, FI. A. Innes-.Joncs, J. Palliser, A. E. Horwell, S. G. McClelland, A. P‘. Kelland, J. H. .Don, and Dr. C. A. Patterson. Alter discussing the idea oi having camping sites in Maori Reserve and Ashbury Park, it was decided to write to the Borough Council in regard to Ashbury Park as a camping site, tills being considered tho most suitable. It~was also decided to ask the Council to provide water and gas, the cost of these to be paid through a charge mi tho motorists using the Park as a camp. . Complaints had been received from hut-owners, farmers, etc., _ regarding the litter of tins, etc., which is left lying about on their properties. A suggestion was m.a4.0 that tho schools should teach children how to negotiate traffic, and it was decided to write to the Schcol Committees Association on the matter. It was said that many children ran across tho street without looking to sec if it was clear, and one instance was given ■where a motorist had nearly run clown a young child who ran straight out in front of the car. Luckily the motorist was going slowly, and averted what lnignt have been a serious accident. A good deal of discussion tcok place over transport buses. Tt was said that such buses arc becoming numerous, and that some municipal regulations is now advisable to deal with them. ■ A letter was received from the Peel Forest- Board asking that owing to the large number of motorists visiting Peel Forest a representative should he .chosen from the Automobile Association to help with suggestions for the visitors.
The secretary stated that Mr AA . FT. Walton, who was interested, in tho reserve, had offered his -crviccs. Mr AA'alt-on was nppoinled to act as representative of the Association in tho matter.
New members elected were: Messrs C. Mclntosh. S. McKenzie, J. Roach, and R. G. A. Sawoll.
Accounts amounting to £7 6s 9d were passed for payment. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to write to the Levels County Council regarding the To Ngnwai bridge, at Pleasant Point, the approach being partially blocked by scrub, etc.
Tt- was also decided to write to the Highways Board, asking that Brookland’s Hill deviation ho constructed to a width of 33 feet, as asked by tho County Council.
