In the Police Court at Yvagga, Leslie Sterck was fined 30s on a charge of carelessness in connection with a fire which occurred on December 19, causing £40,000 worth of damage. ! The police gave evidence that the bush fires which swept Murrumbidge Valley, near YYagga, were caused by Sterck lighting a fire in an open fii-e----pla'-'is among dry grass, in order to boil water. A strong wind was blowing, and the lire broke away. When accused was asked why he did not attempt to extinguish it, he said he could not put nut a fire with boiling water.
