SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. SOUTH AUSTRALIA v. N.S.W. (Received January 11, 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 11. In the Sheffield Shield match, South Australia., .in tho second innings, has lost six wickets for 347 (Schneider 146, A. Richardson 30, V. Richardson 55, Alexander 26 ; McKay 49, Leo 22 not out). The weather was fine and hot, and the wicket sound. It was a, day of aound, but slow, dreary battidg. New South Wales did not shine to any extent in the field, a good many misses being recorded. All the bowling talent was tried out against the solid defence. Schneider’s innings was a model of patience and slowness. He batted shrs 2mins, his first 20 runs taking 81 minutes. A. Auckland coach, asked his opinion of the chances of the New' Zealand cricket team, thought they should w'in a number of games, but -would not say they were likely to heat first class counties. He strongly advised sending the best men procurable, regardless of age. He considered the North Island cricket superior to that in the South, and could not count more than four or five Southerners among the best.
