Mr W. H. Jakins was in Timaru yesterday. Sir James Allen passed through Timaru yesterday on his ivay to Dunedin. Tim Hon. F J. Wollaston (Atr.orneyGener&J), will return to "Wellington today. Mr AV. It. Smith, representative of United Artists’ Films Corporation, is at present in Timaru. The Hon. D T. Fleming M.L.C , was a passenger for BalehitLa by the express yesterday morning. Mr T AY. Lynch was a passenger by ■ the first express for the south yesterday. The Hon. G. J. Anderson, (Minister of Mines) passed through liniaru yesterday, en route to Dunedin. Mr J. Campbell, returned from Engalnd yesterday, and is staying at the Empire Hotel. The many friends of Mr Gordon AYood will regret to learn that lic> was taken seriously ill soon alter his arrival at AVaiuku, Auckland, where he spent the summev vacation. Mr Wood is making a slow recovery, but lie hopes to return to Timaru about the end of the month Owing to ihe indisposition of Air R. J Estall, conductor of the AVoolston Band, Mr Archie Schnack (formerly of Timaru)' lias offered his services, and lias been temporarily appointed conductor. Mr E. Johanson, touring manager for Joseph Cunningham London Comedy Co., is at present in Timaru, making arrangements for. this production at tho Theatre Royal. Mr F. J. Jones (chairman) and J. Mason, members of the New Zealand Railways Board of Management, passed uU’ougii Tinaru yesterday morning on tlic-ir way to Invercargill. They expect to remain in the south, where several railway matters require their attention, for about a fortnight.
