BUSINESS FOR THE QUARTER.The following is the return of business done at the Timaru Supreme Court during the last quarter of the year, the figures for the same period the'previous year being given in parenthesis:— Chattels filed, 171 (146); satisfactions, 31 (15); bankrupt debtors petitions, 3 (7); creditors petitions, 4 (3); discharges, 5 (5) ; applications to'registrar to conduct sales, 5 (6) ; actual Sales, 10 (8); probates and letters of administrations sealed. 59 (52) ; fitting clays (criminal) (1) : persons convicted, 1 (1). MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Tile quarterly' return in connection with the .Magistrate’s Court is as follow:—Number of sittings before Hie Magistrate, 38 (41); before Justices of the reace, 8 (14); total sued for, £3742 4s lid (£3,196 Is lid); number of plaints-entered, 180 (167)'; distress warrants issued, 9 (5) ; judgment summonses, 29 (28) ; warrants of committal, 4 (2) ; processes served by bailiff, 187 (141); warrants executed, 5 (4); total ices and fines collected, £376' 9s (£4Ol 13s) ; (pensions) granted, 46 (46) ; refused, 13 (4) ; pending, 19 (22) ; total cases tried. 101 (144) : total amount recovered, £1993 8s 2d (£1953 16s 3d). IN BANKRUPTCY. During the vonr 25 petitions in bankruptcy' were filed. Proved debts amounted to £621,198 10s 6d. while assets realised totalled £4725 15s Bd. .In dividends, £4584 IBs 9d was paid out. The occupations of the bankrupts Were: — Labourers, farmers, motor garage proprietors, one boarding house proprietor, one coal merchant, one draper, one hotel keeper, one jeweller, one millowner, one news agent, one painter, one plasterer, one saddler, two storekeepers,. one tearoom proprietor, and one vuleaniser. In 1926 there were 17 bankruntcies.
