Herbert, j.P.’s prosi ling in the Police Court to-dav. Defendant was charged with theft of a gramophone at Palmerston North. 'I he Chief Detective, in asking for a remand, said accused admitted the •‘heft, hut as lie was an Habitual criminal it was not in the power of the Justices to deal with him. He said a request .had been made for suppression of the man’s name, because his mother was ill.
