Chicago reports indicate that another outbreak of underworld warfare occurred to-day, when W. O’Brien (former assistant States attorney, and a noted criminal lawyer) was shot and dangerously wounded, and two gangsters killed, while two other men were wounded. The shooting was done with a machine-gun, used under circumstances similar to those surrounding the McSwiggin case. The slayers have not been either identified or apprehended. It is believed that O’Brien’s death, like MeSwiggin’s, was riot sought, but that he. was shot in ignorance of his identity, while in the company of members of one company of criminals, whoso extermination was desired by another, all arising out of beer running feud 6.
