PERSONAL.

The Rev. IT. G. Goring arrived in Timaru from Wanganui yesterday. Mr. G. Johnson returned to Timaru from the north yesterday. Mr W. H. Hall, Cain Street, leaves on a visit to Sydney to-day. Mr W. Nash,, of Wellington, came to Timaru yesterday. Members of the Baptist Union passed,, through Timaru yesterday morning on their way south. Mr J. R. Templin, consulting, engineer to the South Canterbury Electric Power Board, was in Timaru yesterday. Commissioner Hay and Colonel Knott, of the Salvation Army, passed through Timaru yesterday on their way from Invercargill to Wellington. At yesterday’s meeting of the South Canterbury Power Board it was resolved that the Board express Us regret at the illness of Mr G. W. Morrison, resident engineer, and convey the wishes of the members for his speedy recovery. ' Mr M. J. Mack, who has been secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants for a great many years, will retire from that position, and also from tho railway service next month. Having been-an employee of the Railway Department for forty years Mr Mack will retire on superannuation. A cable message from New York announces that the Earl of Elgin (Lord High Commissioner of the Church of Scotland) who is touring Canada at the invitation of the National Council of Education, has been taken to hospital at Winnipeg suffering from throat infection. His condition is not believed to be serious.
