UNPRONOUNCEABLE NAMES.
ASSYRIANS AND CZECHS I (Special to tlio “Herald. ’) j WELLINGTON, June 24. | There was a, considerable backwash ! of the last election and the Eden byei election in the House to-day. Mr H. E. Holland led off by referring to the “rumblings of discontent” which he said lie had heard in Eden. “Oh, it was a misunderstanding, interjected the Prime Minister. “Yes,” replied Mr Holland, but a misunderstanding that sometimes leads to disaster.” A Reform member: “There was a ladv in it.” Mr Holland: “It was not the first time there was a lady in Eden.” At a. later stage Mr Ho'land said liis party did not have unlimited funds to tight a general election with. Replying to Air Holland, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart said Air Holland pretended that the Labour party represented all the useful people of the Dominion. If that was so, judging by election results, only one quarter of the electors were useful people, because that was the proportion which voted for Labour. It had been said that the Government party had a huge campaign / fund, but ho noticed that the labour party had appealed for a campaign fund of five figures. Mr Holland: “We published all the names of our donors.” Mr Stewart: “l saw large lists of names of Assyrians and Czechoslovaks, and so on.” Air W. E. Parry: “There were no wool kings. | The A! inistcr: “The House would bo i vory interested if the Leader of tho 1 Opposition would read out his sub--1 scribers, because, most of their names were unpronounceable —(Laughter).
