In the House of Lords Viscount Astor moved the second rending of a Bill to enable Peeresses, in their own rights, to sit and vote in the House of Lords. The same Bill was rejected last year by 80 votes to 78. Lord Astor said it would entitle twenty-two ladies to take their seats. Lord Banbury moved tho rejection of the Bill. He said, “let these ladies go before tho electors and enter the House of Commons, if the}’ want to legislate.” Lord Bobert Cecil said ho could not see how the Bill would affect tho reform of the PTouse of Lords, which be hoped would not be long dclaj-ed. No new arguments had been adduced to justify the House departing from its previous decision.
Tlio second reading was negatived by 125 votes to 80.
