FINAL AIEETING OF COAJAIITTEE. The final meeting of the South Canterbury AVar Alcniorial Fund Committee, held on Thursday evening, was presided over by Air AYm. C. Raymond. The treasurer submitted a statement of accounts of tho fund since its inception. This was as follows: To subscriptions £4014 8s 5d ; sale of medals and (lags £369 11s 7d; discounts received £3 Its 4d ; interest ’ received £9ll 7s lOd; total £5328 11s 2d. Payments.— By advertising and printing £’l66 14s 5d : hall rents £3 fSs; American plans £1 7s lid; reports re Hydro site £37 6s lOd; postages and petty cash £l9 4s 2d ; cash paid for medals and flags £153 10s 1 (Jd; expenses and interest refunded, South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association £'G9 4s lid ; construction of memorial £482-4 17s 3d: unveiling expenses £l3 19s 9(1: cash on hand and in Post Office Savings Bank £35 7s Id: a total of £5328 ills 2(1. The statement was approved and adopted. On the motion of the chainmn and Air R. B. Bell, it was unanimously resolved:—“That the. members of tho South Canterbury War Alcniorial Fund Committee desire to place on record their high sense of the value of the services rendered to the fund by Air \A . D. Revell, who for the past sixyears has must ahl.v discharged the onerous duties of honorary secrefary, and who has spared neither time nor expense in the faithful and efficient performance, of all tlie duties pertaining to tho office. And that the eoinmilteo respectfully request Air Revell to accept the small credit- ha'anco remaining ill the fund, which has now no further calls upon it, as a small token of its very cordial appreciation of those services.”
All members present- spoke in support of the resolution. I ho secretary staled that lie had accepted tho position of honorary secretary, and had no wish to receive anv reniuneratioii for his services. H,■ hail been pleased to do what he eould in helping to erect a memorial in nik'inorv of the deceased soldiers, and he asked the committee to see whether they could not find some work in connection with the memorial on which the balance ot tlie money eould be spent. On the resolution being -carried tho secretary staled that, lie would only accept tile money on condition that if any suitable suggestions were received for work on the memorial, the inonev •should lie expended upon it. He thanked tlie members for their vote of appro-c-ia Lion.
On the motion of Mr Bell, seconded by Me P. A\ . Pule, *he following resolution was carried :—“ llia.t tin 1 members; of the South Canterbury 'War Memorial Fund Committee fender their most cordial thanks to their chairman (Mr ,v . C. Raymond ) and the r honorary treasurer (MY Geo. Bowker) for their faithful services to the rommittec and for tin: benefit of the fund over :i long neried of rears, and heartily congratulate them'on the successful termination of their hibouis.’’ The chairman thanked the members of the Committee -who had so faithfully assisted in the work of orertiiw the memorial. °
