The gear box oil serves the double purpose of a lubricant and hydraulic fluid, and will neither freeze nor congeal. The hydraulic power is operated by a gear pump actuating two pistons in the gear box, supplying the braking power through levers, equalizers, and solid brake rods to the four wheels. There are no tubes or hose which carry liquid to brakes; no pistons in the brake drums ; no master cylinder or plunger case mounted at a separate unit outsido the gear box ; no emergency fluid reservoir mounted over the steering gear case or on dash ; no separate hydraulic fluid ; °and above all, hydraulic power instead of manual or mechanical power operates the STUDEBAKER brakes. 5. Front wheel brakes nover have to be adjusted after leaving the factory. fi. Tightening or adjusting of brake bands are the only two adjustments necessary in the system. 7 Operation.
