A striking tribute to Lord Kitchener was paid by tile Prince of Wales, when unveiling a statue of the Field Marshal at the Hor.se Guards Parade. .He dwelt on Lord Kitchener's work in Egypt, freeing the Soudan and guaranteeing tiic prosperity of the Egyptians, and then in .South Africa, where his object was not so much to subjugate those in- anus against him, as thereafter to harness the free energies of the great dominion to the coming needs ut file groat Empire. 'The Prince quoted Sir William Birdwood as -saying, “but fo>- Lord Kitchener’s work of reorganising the armies, .India could never have made her great contribution during the war.” After referring to Lord Kitchener’s setting in order of the military house in Australia and New Zealand,' whence came the irresistible Aiizaearmies, the Prince concluded by* dwelling on Lord Kitchener’s work during the Great War, in transforming Britain into a mighty military Power—the arbiter of the destinies of the world.
