KING’S BIRTHDAY TOURNEY B Y WRIGHT WINS CHAMPION- ' ' ‘ SHIP. The Timaru Golf Club's South Canterburv tournament was held at the Highliekl links yesterday. The overhead conditions were delighllul, but owing to the heavy frost overnight the greens in the morning were not good, and scores in the forenoon round were not as good as usual. Jho populaiiD of the fixture was evidenced by a record entry of 93 players. The South Canterbury championship, decided on the gross aggregate for 36 holes, was won by B. V. Wright, who returned a morning card of 01. and m the afternoon went round m <2, tins being the best amateur performance over nut up on the links. Ihe lunneiup H E. ’Wright, did an 86 in the morning and an 80 in the afternoon, fmishi-v.T with 1(56, or 13 strokes behind the winner. The first stroke handicap was won lv L Busbridite, with a gross score cf 90 and nett 74. W. T. Ritchie. C. E. Turlesse, and G. H. Ulrich tied for second place with 75 nett.
