Outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Lanarkshire and Carlisle have been traced to pig carcases imported from Belgium, through Holland. The Ministry of Agriculture traced and destroyed all the. carcases forming the consignment, and other shiploads were inspected and sent back lo Rotterdam. The Minister of Agriculture declares that the discovery is most important. For the first time evidence has been obtained in support of the suspicions that the disease is due to foreign meat, enabling the Government to take preventive measures.
