(From Our Own Correspondent.)! BOWLING CLUB. The Tennika Bowling Club bold a social in the Parish Hall, and the veiy largo attendance illustrated the popularity of the event. Amongst those present wqre the club’s two octogenarian members, Messrs IS. Brown and Leo. Levons, who are aged 86 and 83 yearn, respectively. The two veterans paiticipated in tho pleasures of the evening o the utmost, Mr Brown displaying a distinct preference for the light fantastic, while Mr Levons came within an aec of carrying off the first prize in dm euchre tournament. Occasion was also taken to present the trophies won during the season, but many ot the usual competitions were, not completed, as the Club held the Bristol Cup tor the greater part of the season and the matches in connection with tins inteii'ered with the usual club schedule „ About one hundred players participated in the euchre tournament, the winners of the first prizes being Mrs Turner (Christchurch), and Mr u. Hicfrinbottom. The ; consolation prizes went to Mrs W. F. Evans and Mr J.
Henry. . , .... After supper had been dispensed. Mi ,T. B. Sinclair, president, expressed his appreciation at seeing such a uugo gathering, and said that the club intended holding another two socials before the season closed. So far as trophies were concerned, the, club had ai very successful year, Messrs 1. Edwards and AY. McCallmn winning the Smith Canterbury pairs championship. Mr McCallmn had also won tho Hub champion singles, and the drawing, trailing and driving competition held at the close of the season. The B grade singles, had been won by. Mr ( J, Davis, and Air George ■ Marshall had won the colts’ singles. On behalf of tins club, lie congratulated these placers oil their success. Mr Sinclair fuither stated that last year Mr It. Biown had presented a very handsomei cup to the club for rink play, the holders to have their names inscribed on it at tho end of each season. The competition for this, however, had not been completed owing to the Bnstol Cup matches. Tho chib were very grateful to Mr Brown for donating such a fine
cup. (Applause.) ' The chairman then presented the prizes to the various winners, each ot whom was warmly applauded on coming forward. Dancing was then indulged in Air AV. AfcCallum acting as AI.C. ’just before the eloso tliepresident vo'ced the thanks of the club to Airs H. Hutchison, who had provided such exeel’cnt music for the dance, and to Messrs R. Malcolm and AA . Sliand, who had contributed very acceptable vocal items during the evening.
HOCKEY CLUB SOCIAL. The resuscitated HockeY Cmb held a very eiijoyab’c social in the , I arisll Hall, and the popularity of the event was evidenced by the very large attendance. The hall was prettily decorated with the club colours, .and tho.,scene when dancing was' in progress was a very preltv one. •Excellent music was provided by Simon Orchestra, and Mr K h'olev acted as M.O. During-.the evening vocal items were given bv Miss R. Sheen and Air F. Dwan. both having to respon dto cKorcs. -Miss S. Lenz contributed two very pretty dances, lor which she was heartily applauded. Misses At. AVoslninrton, L Ives L. McHona’d and E. AfcGavva acted as accompanists, and plavcd for extra, dances during the evening. , 1 A Me' R. Goddard, secretary of the ehil/ thanked all those who had assisted in making the evening so cniovable, and said that the members were indebted to Mr Rimes and his orchestra for providing the dance music free of charge. .■ ■ ■ PERSONAL." Air R H. Tavlor left Tetnuka' yesterday on a. visit to Christchurch.
