FARMERS’ UNION.

PLEASANT POINT BRANCH. The annual meeting of members of the Point branch of the. f armers Union was held in the Technical School on Monday, when there were present— Messrs Cleland (chairman), C. Lyon, R. G. Cleland, J. McLeod, C. \V. Chapman, J. Armstrong, C. Ley, <1 • Murpliy, A. H. Roberts* ana A. J. Cleland. . , , , . Before proceeding with the business, Mr Ley made reference to the loss sustained by Mr R. C- Cleland through the death of his wife. —A motion of sympathy was carried. , The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Messrs J. Cleland (chairman) ; C. Ley (vice-chair-man) ; executive members, Messrs Ley and Oed; delegate, Mr J. Cleland; auditor, Mr J* Maze; treauiei, Mi R. G. Cleland; secretary, Mr A. J. deland; committee, Messrs Blakemore, Armstrong, Murpliy, Mcllwrick, Chairman, Talbot, Henderson, Butterworth, Lyon'. Roberts, Gardiner, and Cowles. A remit from tlio Provincial jLxecutive was supported, viz.—“ That the Government ho asked to exempt threshing and chaffcutting plants from the Motor Vehicles Act,” A letter explaining the cause of the do 1 ay in delivering of rams from the recent ram fair was received, from the District Traffic Manager, New Zealand Railways. A discussion took place on Southland lambs being railed to South Canterbury for killing and then branded as Canterbury lamb, and a motion asking the Provincial Executive to inquire into the matter was carried. Further discussion took place on the trouble farmers had in driving stock to the local snleyards the day before the sa’e is held, owing to the increasing number of cars going to and from the favourite local pic'nicing resort. It was mentioned that at a certain j bridge locally it was almost impossible to cross cattle owing to the number of cars parked on the roadside. Mention was also made of the risk farmers ran with their dons owing to the number of passing ears. Tho executive members were appointed to interview the Stock Auctioneers Association to seo if anything could be done in this matter.
