(From Our Own Correspondent.) A. A Xll F. ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Committee of flic Mackenzie A. and 1\ Association there were present: —Messrs l l '. G. Soanes, vice-president (in.the chair), S. K. Cilliiignam, W. Gallon, J. Turkington, \Y. Snnsliall,, J. C. Guiness, A. Borman, f). ft. Ilowden, (i. Morris, Jl. A. Munro, and C. J. Talbot. An apology was received lor the absence oi tiie president, (Mr T. Bussell). Bov. C. 0. Wilcox wrote on bcb.alf of the AY.C.'T.U. thanking the Society lor assistance given in the provision of a rest room on the grounds under the auspices of the Union. Tilts following new members were elected: —Messrs T. Scales, C. Hotvcs, \V. C. Brown, and A. Fleming.'' ft was stated that Mr 11. Bricn had won outright, the Goodwin Challenge Cup for fat lambs. Since the inception of the show there had been ii Goodwill Cup for competition and it was decided to congratulate Air Krien upon winning the present Challenge Cup. The Secretary reported that Airs McClelland had presented the Society with a fine hell for use oil the grounds on •show days. The Secretary was instructed to write thanking the donor for her kindness. The Treasurer, (Mr C. J. Talbot), presented a rough statement of the receipts and expenditure in connection with the late show. This showed that- if the outstanding subscriptions and donation were forthcoming tin; Society would show a .substantial credit balance on the year's working. A high compliment was paid to the secretary, (Air J. A. Fraser) for the very thorough manner in which ho had carried' out his duties in connection withe show. There had heen practically no hitch in the : arrangements, and all the secretarial work had been carried out promptly and cllicioncy. A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Air Fraser for Lis services. A large number of suggest ions wore received for alterations and .improvements in the schedule. These were taken note of. and will he dealt with when the programme is revised for next show.' ,11 • was. stated that the jumping did not start as early as could be deseed, and after discussion it was considered that seeing that the show was a. "one-day” show, the only way to get the jumping on earlier, was'by cutting out the stock parade. The matter was held over for future consideration. - Air J.C. Guinness reported that the. 1 ermpelitors in the hunting classes were j very pleased with the jumps erected j ami the lay out of the ring at the late ! show. Some owners had stated that it they had known conditions were to he so good they would have entered their horses. Accounts were passed for payment
•and the meeting closed. WINTER JOVIALITIES. ! Now that the days aro getting '.shorter, —and the niglits cooler, winter sports and socials aro beginning to hold' sway, and winter meet hies, of various kinds are being thought of. Football lias already begun and will no doubt claim' its 'devnioes • each half holiday. The Howling (Hub has hooked Friday night for its annual social. usually one of the best of the season, while •another big allair-- the limit Club's hall - has he,ol fixed lor May fit). The AV.E.A. classes arc'beginning this week, and there is a movement on loot to revive the Chess Club. One meeting has already been held in eonncevioii with each and •preliminaries have hero settled. Indeed so busy is this week-end that the. annual meetings of the parishioners of St. Stephens Church, and the V,allies’ Giiil.l. fixed for Fridiiy night, laid to he postponed for a fortnight.
