(From Our Own Correspondent.)] HOCKEY CLUB FORMED. It is exactly ten years ago since tho Temuka Hockey Club disbanded, and since that time many. attempts have been made to revive interest in the game without success. This season Mr .Furn Smith, who was 010 of the members of the old club and a South Canterbury representative, took the matter in hand, and a meeting was he'd to discuss the matter. Twentyfive of those present signified their intention of been ruing players. Mr Furn Smith presided, and outlined his proposals so far as the club was concerned. After a full discussion, it was unanimously decided that a club he formed. The following' officers were elected : Patron. Mr T. D. Burnett, ALP., president. Mr Furn Smith ; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Goddard, G. B. Cartwright, Thomas Sheen sonr., H. B. Strange, D. Mofnnes and AV. .1. Keys; treasurer, Mr D. Muir; secretary, Mr S. Goddard: enmmitte'C, Messrs AY. Senrle, I. Schrader. G. Da wry, P. '[listen. A. J. Blaekmnre, N. McGarva. G. Sillies and N. Predd.v; club captain, Mr C. Double; delegates to subAssociation, Messrs G. Lawr.v and F. Smith ; club coaches, Messrs C. Double and F. Smith. The annual .subscription was fixed at 7s Gd, and black and white was chosen as club colours.
Mr AV. Blytli .offered to supply the timber for goal posts, and a- hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donor. A practice took place yesterday afternoon in Victoria Park. ORGAN RECITAL. Frantically every seat in St. Peter’s Church was occupied on "Wednesday evening, when Mr Axel Newton, organist of Chalmers Church. Timaru, gave an organ recital. Associated with Mr Newton were Mrs 11. 8Russell (soloist) and Mr G. Berry man (cellist). The two-hour programme was well chosen and varied, and was gone through without (he big audience showing any lack- of interest in any item, some of which were lairlv difficult and exacting. Alter a devotional opening, which included tho singing ol “AYe Love The Place. 0 Lord,’ Air Newton commenced the recital with Bach’s “Aria.” The organ is a twu-slop manual, without a very wide range, bul Air New!on’s a 1 most silent manipulation o! slops, swell, coupe..; and pedal organ, in addition to tree, separate, and united use of both small and great manuals, was praisewortliv. All his items were very happily chosen, hill perhaps Brusig s “lain tasia,” Leniarc’s “Pilgrim’s Chorus,” Beethoven's “Adagio.” Duhios “March of the Aiagi,” and ospcciady lus ponular “Toseatto” (Dubois) deserved and received special appreciation.
