TIMARU—THURSDAY, APRIL 29. (Before Mr E. D. 'Mosley, S.M.) BY-LAW CASES. For driv'ng a motor-car without being the holder of a driver’s license’; Augustine Lagoria Goodwin, who did not appear, was lined 10s. and cosfs 7s. John Sulmoiid, was charged that lie did drive a motor-car around the corner from Stafford Street in to George Street, on tho wrong side ’of the road. Defendant, who did not appear, was convicted and , fined £2 and costs. LICENSING CASES.” Peter McDonald, (Air W. D. Campbell), was charged on two counts that being the holder of a publican’s license, in respect to the Sportsman’s Arms Hotel, he did keep such premises open for the sale of liquor after hours. On tho application of counsel tlio case was adjourned unt'l May 13. John M. Toneycliffe, and Thomas H. Ivey were charged with being found at the Sportsman’s Arms Hotel after hours. In conformity with the jirevious charges the cases were adjourned until May 13. LICE-INFECTED SHEEP. The Inspector of Stock (Mr W. Scott) preceded against John Bell, Jeremiah O’Connor and Kvran Bropliy, who did not appear, on charges of exposing lice infected sheep for sale at the Pleasant Point salcyards on March 29. A fine of 2Qs and costs was inflicted in each case. Francis Raymond Chapman, pleaded not guilty on a similar charge. Defendant said that he had dipped the sheep about two months ago and had examined them on regular occasions. He said that in liis district 60 to 70 per cent, of the sheep had been infected. The Inspector said that 10 out of 13 sheep had been infected. Oil ono occasion lie went to Chapman’s yard and found a ewe covered with lice. His Worship said he understood the difficulty experienced by farmers in dipping and keeping their stock clean. He would be fined 20s and costs. A DANGEROUS PRACTICE. FAILING TO ATTEND DRILL. Walter Alexander Mcßoberts was charged with falling to attend drill. He was convicted and fined 20s and costs. William Harding, similarly charged, was fined £2 and costs. Francis Perry Hawlccv. who nleaded guilty, was fined £4 and costs on a sim-dar charge. Lieutenant Clements outlined the case, which he raid was a very bad one.
