MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiffs by default was given in the following civil cases : S. Smith v. W. Williams, claim £4 18s 7d, costs-£1 3s 6d; Superintendent of State Advances v. Andrew Hamilton, claim £126 12s Id, costs £2 15s; G. H. Lasher (Mr Inglis) v. J. Parker, claim £8 8s (kl, costs £1 IQs 6d; same v. Henry Barker, claim £lB 2s, costs £3 ss; It. C. Hodge (Mr A. D. Mcßae) v. J. Davie, claim £24 17s 4d, costs £4 5s Od; J. S._ Foyo (Mr L. Hudson) v. Nathaniel Williams, claim £6, costs £1 11s 6d. WILFUL DAMAGE. Herbert Brown appeared on remand on a charge of having caused wilful damage to the extent of £l9 12s 6d, to tho property of Charles George Morgan, jeweller, Stafford Street, and also with resisting a police constable in the execution of his duty. Accused pleaded guilty to' both charges, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Senior Sergeant Fahey stated that tho accused was unknown to the police. Accused said that ho was very drunk at tho time, but could not tell how juany drinks he had. Generally he was engaged in hotel work. On the charge of resisting tho police accused was convicted and discharged. On the charge of wilful damage, he was convicted' and placed cn probation for 12 months, and ordered to pay tho damage caused, in default 3 months’ imprisonment.
POSTAL OFFICER CHARGED. John William Davoy appeared on a charge of having stolen a registered letter containing the turn of £B, the property_of the Postmaster-General. Detective Walker stated that other charges were pending, and asked for a remand. A remand was granted until March 2i, bail being allowed on the application of Mr Emshe, in the sum of £SO, and, one surety of £SO
