Speaking at the annual congress of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia, Mr Stanley Bruce (Prime Minister), strongly appealed to the loaders of trade and commerce in Australia to preach aud put into practice the gospel of efficiency to achieve a system which would conserve the rights of the producer, consumer, and legitimate distributor. Mr Bruce emphatically declared that something had to be done to improve the-position, and if trade and commerce' would not face the problem,. the Government would inevitably be forced to do so. The Prime Minister concluded by stating that he viewed such actions by Governments with apprehension, because they had lamentable examples in the past of the incompetence of Governments to deal with matters of trade and commerce, and he earnestly asked the delegates to give a lead along the lines that would ensure the benefit of the whole people.
