TROUBLE IN MANAWATU.
A AND P. ASSOCIATION’S SQUABBLES. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Jan. 26. When Mr W. McKenzie, one of the most successful past presidents of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association, warned the gcncial committee at a recent meeting that the alleged unpopularity of certain, omeials with the general public, as well as with exhibitors, was doing harm, the broad hint was not taken kindly by other of the Society’s prominent members. At a meeting to-day Mr J. H. Perrett, the president, regretted statements, which, he said, had been broad--casted throughout the Dominion, and suggested a retraction by Mr McKenzie. This tlio latter refused to make, and tendered his resignation, which was accepted. He then left the meefcing. Subsequent discussion pointed to the general opinion that the ivere uncalled for, although Mr McKenzie declared that he had been congratulated on all sides for his attempt to infuse new blood into the Society.
Later, when a prominent Friesian breeder was called on to show cause why his prize-money should not bo impounded because lie did not show the animals in the grand parade, there waa a sharp-passage between him and another well-known breeder, but the intervention of several members of the committee effected a reconciliation. Consternation was expressed at the proximity of the Royal Show dates to the Manawatu fixture, the opinion- Ifcing that the Royal Show should be held first, so that animals would not be withheld from exhibition at Palmerston. It was decided, however, to adhere to the dates and make representations to the Royal Show Society.
