SCOUTS VISIT MT. COOK.

LARGEST PARTY. FOR HERMITAGE (Special to the “Herald.”) HERMITAGE, January 25. By the characteristic kindness of Mr Wigley, a party of one hundred and ten Scouters and Scouts are now enjoying tho wonderful scenic beauties of Mt. Cook. Tho party, which consists of Scouts from Victoria, as well as troops representative of the whole of tho North Island, Nelson, and Christchurch, detrained from a special train conveying one thousand Scouts from the jamboree at Dunedin, and were conveyed to the Hermitage in special ’buses. They arrived at tho Hermitage on Sunday, and wero soon made comfortable in commodious quarters, provided by the host of tho Hermitage, Mr Clark.

Yesterday morning "they were early astir. Under the guidance of Chief Guide Williams and staff, the whole party proceeded to the Stocking, and Mueller Glaciers, and spent a most delightful day in brilliant sunshine on the ice, the majority getting their first experience of Alpine climbing. The chief guide remarked on the capabilities of the boys, also noting that it was the largest party which lias ever visited the Glacier, and at the same time demonstrating the wonderful accessibility of the environs of Mt. Cook as a resort for amateur Alpinists. After a happy day in the clear mountain air the artists of the party, who performed at the jamboree camp-fire concerts, entertained a largo number or visitors staying at the Hermitage with a most unique programme ot bcout ltC Tho party, which was organised by c M ft}iva< r e of Nelson, with the Assistance of S.M. Stratford, of Strutford was made possible by the courtesy of the camp chief of the jamboree, Colonel Campbell, who . afforded every facility to make the trip possible. The" party is returning to limaru today and will proceed north to-night by ferry steamer, carrying with them most pleasant memories of an unforgettable conclusion to the jamboree.
