(.From Our Own Correspondent.) I>..yD CONCERT. The AY aimate Silver Band, under the baton of Mr 1). G. Asliby, gave two concerts oil Sunday m aid of the hospital patients’ Christinas fund. In the afternoon they played a number of appropriate selections in the pretty grounds surrounding the hospital, while the evening performance was given in Seddon Square, where a large crowd assembled. As a result of tne band’s efforts quite a tidy sum lias been handed over for distribution. FALL FROM BALCONY. A young girl, named Rosa Crccmcr, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. B. Creemer, AVaunatc, over-balanced_trom a balcony on her parents’ residence in Mill Road on Saturday evening, and fell on to a gravel path some twelve feet below. She suffered great pain and. it was thought at. first that she had sustained some serious injury, but after an examination had been made at Nurse Godfrey’s private hospital it was discovered that no bones were broken, but that the patient was severely bruised and suffering from shock. WHEAT QUESTION.

A deputation from the Waimatc’ Branch of the Fanners’ Union, consisting of Messrs R. Sinclair (president), H. Ruddenklau and A. AY. Barnett travelled with the Minister of Lands (Hon. A. 11. McLeod) from Oamaru to Studholme on Saturday and urged him to use his influence to induce the Government to take over the control of wheat for a period of three years. The Minister replied that he was not favourable to the request, and, personally, did not favour control at all. The deputation was introduced by Mr J. Bitcbcner, M.P. RIFLE SHOOTING. The AVaim.ate Defence Rifle Club’s shoot on Tuesclay last resulted as follows:
