THREE SHOCKS AT ELTHAM. Bjr Telegraph—Press Association . ELTHAM, December HO. . Three severe earthquakes in Ehliani at about 1.10 this morning, from a westerly direction, created genera! alarm.. Houses rocked sickeningly, moveable articles were thrown about, and cloaks stopped. Tho shocks lasted; several seconds. No severe damage is reported. ■ .; SEVERE IN NELSON. ay Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, December 10. The severest earthquake shock felt in Nelson for many years was experienced at 1.15 tiiis morning. Many chimneys wer e damaged. TEN SECONDS TREMOR AT HOKITIKA. By Telecraph—Press Association, HOKITIKA, December 10. A smart shock of earthquake, lasting ten seconds, was experienced at 1.14 tiiis morning. AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 10. This morning an earthquake was responsible for the destruction of a Celtic cross monument, erected over forty years ago, at Mount Street Cemetery, to mark the resting place of Father J. P. O’Reilly, the first Roman Catholic priest in Wellington. The cross stood about ten feet high, and now lies completely smashed up.
