CHESS.
lUGHEJELD v. TEMUKA. A team from the Highfield Chess Club visited Temuka oh Tuesday evening for a friendly game with the newlyfoniied Temuka Club. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and after many, hard-fought games Temuka showed tliat their material was too good for the local team, and won by seven games to four. Mr N. B. Edwards thanked the Temuka Club for their hospitality, and Dr. MeTnncs replied, ft was then arranged for a return match to take place in Timaru on the 25th August. The following are the results:—
