SCHOOL MATCHES
WAITAKI v. TIMARU
In many quarters it is considered that the brightest exhibition of the season is provided by the annual match between the Timaru and A\aitaki High Schools. In recent years honours m the first fifteen games have been divided, the schools winning alternately. At Oainaru last year, Timaru defeated the home team after an exceptionally close game. The previous year, playing on the Caledonian Grounds, Waitaki prevailed after a meritorious display. This seaum the Red and Blacks are said to have one of their best teams in recent years, and in competition matches the team is so far undefeated. They have only played one intercollegiate fixture this year, defeating Christchurch Boys’ High after a fast and open game. The Timaru team also has a fine record, being the leading team in the junior competition, having been defeated only once. This year’s contests will be played this afternoon on the Athletic Grounds, the junior (second) fifteens playing at 1.30, and the seniors at 3 o’clock. Tho Timaru first fifteen will bo as follows: — Roddick, Lindsay, Mangos, Arnold, Arnold, McConnell, King, Jones, Blue, Vaughan, Halstead, Graham, Manchester, Caskey, Marsh.
