FAREWELL SOCIAL.
AT TE NGAWAI. (From Our Own Correspondent)’. A farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs W. Ford and family, who aro , leaving tho district. The esteem in ’ which Mr and Mrs Ford are held was evidenced by tho large and representative attendance from all over the district, including Timaru, Mount Nessing, Albtiry and Kimbell. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs W. Snusliall and A. Hammond (chairman and secretary of the Fairlie Caledonian Society), G. E. Bolland, R. 11. Joyce (Timaru), Bridgeman, V. Howes, D. Angland, and A. "VV. Macdonald, all wishing tlio departing guests success in the future. At an interval in the dancing, Mr J. McCort spoke briefly of the many good qualities of Mr and Mrs Ford, and on behalf of the residents wished them health and prosperity in their new sphere of labour. Mrs J. Cain, in an appreciative speech, detailed the many good qualities of Mr and Mrs Ford, and on behalf of their many friends presented them with a silver tea service and oak trnv, suitably inscribed. Miss It. Ford and Masters C. and T. Ford were also the recipients of an envelope each containing notes to purchase some memento of their stay at To Ngawai. Mr E. Gallon, on behalf of the Te | detailed Mr Ford’s many activities for the benefit of tho district in general, and sport in particular. Mr Vv'. Brown and Mr J. Tennant also made appreciative references to Mr Ford. Mr C. A. Shnllcrass (on behalf of tho To Ngawai Miniature Rifl© Club), thanked Mr Ford for his services. Mr E. Cahcn, on behalf of the To Ngawai F.8.C., presented Messrs Ford, senr. and junr., each with a smoker’s outfit, with best wishes for future success. Mr Ford replied, thanking all for their handsome presents, and for their flattering remarks. Mr C. For i also briefly replied, on behalf of his sister and brother and himself. The ladies supplied sunnor, which was greatlv appreciated. Mrs I. Campbell fpianol and Mr J. Campbell Junr. (Violin)" supplied tho music, and with Messrs R,. Irvine and M. Connor in charge of the floor, nothing was left to be desired.
