GERALDINE.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. A special meeting of the Geraldine Borough. Council was held on Tuesday night. Present — Mr J. Kennedy (Mayor), and Councillors G. Shorratt, E. H. Logan, W. .Davison, Or Paterson and E, .White. The Mayor said that the meeting was called to go further into the matter of arrangements in regard to the l Town Hall. Since last meeting he {had got further information relative to . finance and insurances. Mr Lawson waited on the Council and stated that he had a considerable sum of money invested in a frlant, and j had worked hard for four years to establish a good connection. Ho had I found it difficult to keep going, but ; had hung on with the hope of being able to lease the Town Hall, and conditions improving. He considered that it would not be a payable proposition for. {the Borough to go in for municipal picI tures., j : A full discussion then followed, j The Mayor stated that as representatives of the people, they must look to do the best they could to get the best returns, and judging by the information to hand, Joe thought most revenue would be derived by the Council undertaking the running of pictures . themselves.

1 Councillor Davison : proposed, and Councilor Sherratt seconded: “That Die Council run municipal pictures in the Town Hall.” j Councillor Paterson moved as an amendment that tenders be called for leasing the Town Hall for twelve months; no tender need necessarily bo accepted. This was seconded by Councillor White. On the amendment being put to the meeting, it was lost by a majority of four, voting against it. On the motion of Councillor Paterson, it was decided that tenders be called for,, a manager-caretaker-operator for municipal pictures for a period of twelve months.

Councillor Whit© stated that tho Musical Society had agreed to give an entertainment to help provide funds for a piano. A schedule of fees for hire of hall was then drawn up and adopted.
