CHARGE OF SHEEP STEALING.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL
By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, June 9. Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court to-day a sheep farmer in the Mangaroa district named Alfred James McGregor, was chaiged with stealing So sheep valued at £4o, the property of J. R- Murphy, and sheep valued at £l2, the property of A. J. Jackman. „ . .. Murnhy and accused aro neighbouis. It was stated in evidence that at a muster at accused’s place 26 vcthcis wove found winch were the. property of Murnhy and boro bis mark and accused’s mark. In regard to Jackman s she-m, accused said when he was at McLaurin’s place looking for stragglers there were fourteen of Jackman s sheen there. Jackman used to be a neighbour, but bad left tlrt district. Mc.Laurin said Jackman’s sheep were a nuisance, so accused took. them. ami after a week or two put bis ear-mark on tbo sheep, and mado a note m bis dinrv. intending to inform Jackman, and pay him when they met. Accused pleaded not guilt-v, and was committed for trial, bail being allowed —self £2OO. and one surety of, £2OO, or two of £IOO.
