(Received May 6, 11.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 6,
Opening the seventh quinqven.'iial session or the international Council oi Women, the Countess of Aberdeen declared that the strength of the organisation lay in the inhibition contained in the constitution against dealing with controversial, political and religious issues between nations. “Our special power as women,” the Countess added, “lies in the formation. of public opinion in favour ot mutual aid and international co-opera-tion, based on a fuller knowledge and intercourse between nations and their component parts.”
Tho Countess asserted that the Council must strive to gather up the war-worn peoples of the earth” in the arms of an enveloping motherhood, and soothe away all their fears of another war, and of an unknown future.” Addresses were made in four official languages to the Convention—English, French, German and Spanish.
