TEMUKA.
(From Our Own CorresDondent). - FIRE AT SALVATION ARMY BOYS’ HOME. • Shortly after 7 o’clock last evening the Temultfi Fire Brigade were called out to a fire which had broken out in a macrocarpa hedge at the Salvation Army Boys' Home. The fence which is a very old one, is 6ft wide, and runs from the school to the main building.. There was ,a danger of sparks lighting on the main building, but fortunately there was an entire abseno. of wind, and the prompt efforts of the Brigade, under Capt. Henry, checked further progress. The institution is outside the Borough boundary, and consequently high-pressure winter was not abuilablo. The manual _ had to he requisitioned, and by the aid of many willing helpers an ample supply of water was maintained. PICTURES TO-NIGHT. Only such a master of characterisation as Sinclair Lewis could have built a “Babbitt” typical of the average business man of practical exterior., whose heart is young with dreams of romance, and it is the story of “Babbitt” in all its realism that will be shown at Temuka to-night. This is the character that "Willard Lewis portrays. The addition to an interesting gazette, another of tthe popular “Our Gang” comedios will be screened.
