Japanese troops evacuated Russian Saghalien on April 4, handing over the administration to the Soviet. The profit Vickers, Limited, of England, made last year was £403,000, which is insufficient to give any dividend. The ordinary capital totals £10,000,000. The balance sheets show' a steady decline in profits since the war, ascribed to foreign competition. A summary of reparation payments presented by the Agent-Heneral of Reparations until March 31 shows the payment to' the Allies’ account of 555,000,000 gold marks, of which Britain received 128,000,000, France 235,000,000, Belgium 57,000,000, Italy 41,000,000, and Japan 2,500,000. It is understood in Cairo that Italy has offered Egypt a strip of territory from Tripoli, as compensation for Egypt’s surrender of the Jerabub oasis. The Egyptian Press, however, claims that the inhabitants of Jerabub desire to remain under Egyptian rule, and the Government has despatched a commission to obtain proof of this statement. Replying in the House of Commons to Lieutenant-Commander J. M. Kenwortliy (Liberal Member for Central Hull) who asked w,as it true that extensive alterations and enlargements at Singapore were being carried out without fortifications, Sir Laming Worthington Evans (Minister of War) said the plan of the fortifications was at present being considered. “Prismatic rings will enable radio enthusiasts both to see and hear the next’ Olympic Games, the Presidential Inauguration, etc.,” the inventor, Francis Jenkins,' predicted in a report to the American Chemical Society meeting at Baltimore, Maryland. He stated that it would bring university education to the farms, and enable military headquarters to look through a lens ‘carried by an aeroplane.
