ASSAULT ON HIGH SEAS.» By Telegraph—Press Association. ' NATIER, Nov. 23. Thomas Leonard Jordan, a trimmer on the Waikawa, was charged on SaturdayNvith assaulting Robert Johnson, a fireman, between .San Francisco and Napier.. After hearing evidence in the Magistrate’s Court he was committed for trial at the Supreme Court tomorrow. Johnson is an inmate of Napier hospital, suffering from, injuries to his right eye,, which ' will probably -be manent.FAILURE TO KEEP BOOKS. By Telegraph—Press Association. HAMILTON, Nov. 22. A Huntly store-keeper,, named James McKee; was Sentenced to a month's imprisonment for failure to keep books and'-accounts of a stationery business. Defendant is an undischarged bankrupt, and for contracting debts while in that state he was convicted and discharged. Two further charges -of disposing of property otherwise than in the ordinary way of 'tra,de, the property having been obtained oil credit and not paid for, and of obtaining credit, to the amount df £54 3s 5d .without disclosing the fact that he was ah undischarged bankrupt, were withdrawn. DEATH FROM ALCOHOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. . NELSON, Nov. 22. Walter A'. H. Crichton, licensee of the Turf Hotel, Stoke, on remand, for r assaulting John R. Kerr, by pointing a loaded gun at him, died in the public hospital last evening. At the inquest this morning a verdict was -returned that death was due to exhaustion following acute delirium tremens. Appreciation was expressed by relatives and the Coroner of the treatment accorded accused by the police.
A SALUTARY SENTENCE-. By Telegraph—Press Association;. - ■ WANGANUI, Nov, 22.Frederick .Floyd', an elderly man, pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a young girl at Hunterville. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment' by Mr Justice McGregor. Prisoner had been previously sentenced for a similar offence. THE TIPSY MOTORIST. By Telegraph—Press Association.
