TRINITY CHURCH.

BUILDING REMODELLED, OPENING SERVICE TO-MORROW. The process of reconstruction having been completed Die re-openuig oi Trinity Rrosbyt-eriau Church will take place to-morrow, .when the Kov. George Miller, Moderator ol tlie general Assembly, will preside at tlie ceicurations. One of .the earliest public buildings in Tunaru, the minty Unumi constructed of concrete, with the exception , of me rooi. watch was ul wood. Of late years it was apparent that the borer had made its appoarr.ij*t, and upon expert examination being made it was found that the building had Itecome nnsale lor public use. Faced with the problem of placing a new and stronger type of root over the Church the Court of Deacons, after going very exhaustively into the question decided’ to remodel the whole interior of tlio Church at the same time:, and with that object in view, asked Mr Herbert flail to redesign the interior in an architectural stylo to correspond with the excellent exterior of the church. The first work was to place a .strong steel principle roof over the building anti remloice the walls and roof, it was then decided to abandon the wooden gallery at the back as it was too small and of little practical use, consideration being given when planning the interior to the possibility of erecting a larger gallery at a future date. On entering the church the eye _is attracted by a finely moulded white plaster roof with its massive beams and covering. The trails are treated with white plaster to correspond with the ceiling, and are embellished with architraves to the windows, and a bold stream course above the dado, and the same across the face of tlie vestibule. The windows are delicately treated with a chaste design in leaded lights consisting of several lights of translucent glass, and a small margin of amber coloured glass, the general effect oj the windows being both rich and harmonious. The western end of the church lias received close attention and its design and workmanship is very effective". The chancel lias been formed by a wide, semi-eircular arch, the lull width of the choir, and in this is placed the large organ. The choir seating 30 choristers is on a raised platform in front of tlie organ, and the ministers rostrum is separate and in front of the choir. The woodwork of the choir and organ is particularly effective and sal isfactory being I renclt polished' to a rich wood colour. \he organ screen is of the same design and has two wings reaching to either side of tlie big archway and terming tlie hack of the choir, the choristers approaching the choir from iheir own vestry through the organ screen. Tho remainder of the woodwork which is in kauri is French polished to maten the surrounding woodwork, and is of a rich brown tint. The .combination of colours lias been obtained by the architect in the pure white plaster, wfii-k, and tlie highly finished woodwork, which is both distinctive anti restful in appearance. For the comfort of thoi congregation, the most modern heating and lighting devices have been installed. The church is wanned hv fourteen hot water radiators, operated by a coke fire boiler. 'I he lighting is by electricity and is on tlie indirect principle to give uniform illmnvrion w'thout dazzle or eye .straining effects. The organ is not yet ■ ompletcu. A new kevboard is being built, in Christchurch.’but it is not expected to arrive i.nlil after Faster. The soi-viees to-morrow will be runacted by the Mudernior <>| the (eoii'vsl Assemble. when the 1 > cun-i ru - t - , d edifice ;v 1 11 no doubt be filled to j ovei flowing.
