CROSS COUNTRY RUN. A cross country race, held under the auspices ol tlie i'.AGO.A. A.A.A. was run last evening,, when conditions tor tlie event were ideal. The mushing place for the race was on Caroline Ray where the Soutn Canterbury Regimental Rami rendered some very line musical selections, winch were Highly appreciated by tne large attendance. The following otneiuls, With the joint secretaries, Messrs E. A. Lee and T. R. Ruxton, capably carried out all arrangements .—Supervisor, Mr A. N. Uakey ; judges, Messrs J. V. AlcKeague, E. is, Foote and A. G. Tait; starter, Air J. O’Leary; starter's steward, Mr E. U. Cliriin; timekeeper, Mr J. O’Leary; course stewards, Messrs V. T. Nicholas, C. Poslgate and I. Rlackwood; luuidicapper, Air E. D. Mcßae; pickets, Messrs C. Coxhead (chief), E. AlcJiwruith, T. N. Somerville, L. Webster, H. 1. L. Somerville, A. EL. Malcolm, F. Roys, E. Parloot. All the competitors handicapped faced the starter, and the result was as follows. — R. Hillary (2min), time 14.37 ... 1 U. Slade (limn) time 13.47 3-5 ... 2 H. Auty (2min) tune 14.51 3-5 ... 3 The winner won by- oU yards. Tlie closest of the unplaced division to finish were— F. Unite (2 min), D. Freeman (2min), F. Knight (imiin), L. Aiurrav (inun;, T. R. Ruxton (ser), W. 11. Doig (2nuii), and C. Winter burn (3min). Ruxton, oil scratch, ran a, sterling race, but found tlie handicap just a little too severe. Expressions or high appreciation of the ser vices of the picaets was made by the competitors.
